RTLS deployment cost

RTLS deployment cost combines devices, physical installation, positioning software, commissioning and application integration. A useful budget separates one-time work from recurring charges and records the assumptions behind each quoted amount.

SRS Networks is a nationwide infrastructure deployment company headquartered in South San Francisco, California, serving enterprises across the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, and Hawaii since 1996. We scope mounting, cabling, network readiness and field documentation against the selected RTLS design. The platform owner specifies the radio layout, commissioning and application acceptance.

This resource defines physical installation planning. Platform engineering, software integration and positioning guarantees require a separately assigned, qualified owner.

Count the installed system, not just the tags

Build the estimate from the approved zone and device schedules. Include mounting accessories, access equipment and the infrastructure required by the selected model. A tag price cannot represent an installed tracking system.

  • Tags and spare devices
  • Anchors or locators and mounting kits
  • Gateways, servers and network prerequisites
  • Freight, staging and site receiving

Keep field and platform quotes separate

Ask who owns every line item. Device mounting and cable testing are different tasks from position calibration or an application interface. Preserve exclusions so two bids can be compared without treating omitted work as a saving.

  • Field labor and access windows
  • Power and backhaul installation
  • Commissioning and performance validation
  • Application and data integration

Account for the operating period

List license periods, support arrangements, batteries and replacement work where applicable. Confirm which amounts recur and when. Use actual supplier quotes rather than applying one platform's license model to every manufacturer.

  • License period and renewal basis
  • Support scope and owner
  • Replacement batteries and hardware
  • Changes after facility reconfiguration

Use the workbook to normalize the bids

The downloadable worksheet records quantity, quote source, date, one-time cost, recurring cost and unresolved scope. Add only supported figures. Keep contingency and exclusions visible rather than hiding uncertainty inside a single per-square-foot price.

  • Quote date and validity
  • Named owner for each cost category
  • Included work and exclusions
  • Pilot acceptance before broader deployment

Send the drawings, device schedule and acceptance owner

Use the workbook to record quantities, current quotes, exclusions and recurring periods. Blank values remain unknown; this resource contains no invented RTLS unit rates.

Questions to settle before the crew arrives

What is the average RTLS installation price?

We do not publish an unsupported average. Device architecture, mounting access, pathways and commissioning scope materially change the estimate; submit the actual site information for a scoped quote.

Is the worksheet a quotation?

No. It is a planning and bid-comparison document with blank cost fields. A quotation requires the reviewed scope and current supplier or installer pricing.

Do all platforms charge the same recurring fees?

No. Obtain the selected manufacturer's current license and support terms. Record the period and renewal basis separately from field installation.

Can I compare RTLS using cost per square foot?

That can hide differences in coverage, tracking requirements and infrastructure. First compare the same zones, device schedule, acceptance tests and exclusions.

What does SRS need to scope the physical work?

Send the site list, states, drawings, device schedule and approved installation instructions. Include access windows and the contact who owns platform commissioning so responsibilities can be agreed before dispatch.

Which costs affect the field estimate?

Mounting access, work windows, pathways, travel, device quantities and readiness gaps affect field labor. Platform licenses, calibration and application integration should be quoted separately by their assigned owners.

How should a pilot become a multi-site deployment?

Accept the pilot against the agreed physical and platform tests before repeating it. Carry forward the approved checklist, record site-specific differences and confirm readiness before each later visit.

What does the scope workbook include?

It records site readiness, device locations, responsibility owners, acceptance checks and cost categories. Complete it with the platform designer and facility owner, then use it to request comparable field estimates.
