RFID installation is the physical work that makes a tracking system read: surveying the read zones, running conduit and certified network drops to each reader, mounting portal frames and antennas at the designed heights and angles, budgeting PoE, and validating read rates with real tagged product at real speed. How an RFID install runs
Five steps, the same way at site one and site sixty.
1. Site survey before hardware
Read zones, mounting heights, existing WiFi channels, metal and racking geometry, and the actual traffic pattern through each door. RFID that was designed on a floor plan reads pallets in the next aisle.
2. Pathway, power, and drops
Conduit at the jamb, homerun Cat6/Cat6A to each reader, fire-stopping at penetrations, and a PoE budget that accounts for readers plus everything already on the switch. Every drop terminated, tested, and labeled.
3. Mount, aim, and terminate
Portal frames and antennas installed to the design's heights and angles, cable dressed and secured, readers landed on documented switch ports. Aiming is where read rates are won or lost.
4. Read-rate validation
Test reads through each portal with real tagged product at real forklift speed, tuning power and angle until the zone reads what it should and ignores what it shouldn't. Results documented per portal.
5. Handoff to your platform
Readers land configured to your software vendor's spec, with port maps, mounting records, and read-rate results. Their engineers commission the application against a documented install instead of a discovery walk.
Why RFID pilots read well and rollouts don't
A pilot gets installed by the people who designed it, in the building they designed it for, with someone watching the read counts all week. The rollout gets installed by whoever was available, in sixty buildings with different door heights, ceiling structures, and racking — and nobody validates the reads until a cycle count disagrees with the system three months later.
The fixes are unglamorous and physical. Antenna aiming that reads the door and not the adjacent lane. Mounting heights held to the design rather than to whatever the lift reached that day. Enough PoE headroom on the closet switch that adding eight readers doesn't brown out the access points already there. Conduit that survives a forklift strike at the jamb. Read-rate validation with tagged product moving at real speed, documented per portal, so a later dispute has a baseline.
On multi-site programs the gear itself is the other failure point. Roughly one in six direct-to-site shipments fails on first delivery — wrong dock, no signature, nobody at receiving was told. We stage readers and antennas at our West or East Coast facility, configure and label them per site, and ship to a named recipient. Below about five sites that overhead isn't worth it and drop-ship is fine.

What SRS does not do here
SRS does not sell RFID software, readers, or tags, does not configure your inventory application, and does not design the read strategy for your business process — your platform vendor owns tag selection, encoding scheme, middleware, and application logic. We install to their published spec and validate that the physical layer performs against it.
For a single building with two dock doors, a local low-voltage shop plus your vendor's field engineer will beat us on price — our model pays off across a portfolio, where the same portal has to be built the same way in forty buildings. Bring us the pilot only if the pilot is setting the standard for the rollout.

No. SRS installs infrastructure and stays vendor-neutral — we work to whatever platform you selected and land the hardware configured to your vendor's specification. Tag selection, encoding scheme, middleware, and application logic belong to your RFID vendor. That separation is deliberate: it means our install recommendations are not steering you toward a product line.

Yes — dock-door and choke-point work is usually scheduled into off-shift or between-shift windows so receiving and shipping aren't interrupted. Conveyor and print-and-apply installs have to be coordinated with the line integrator's commissioning window, since the line is down for both. RFID typically reads tags at fixed choke points — a pallet passes a dock-door portal and gets recorded. RTLS tracks position continuously using anchor grids, usually BLE or UWB. The physical trade is largely the same (mounting at height, PoE, cabling, surveys), but anchor density and placement discipline are much higher for RTLS. SRS installs both.
Both. Operators hire SRS directly to install infrastructure for a platform they have already chosen. RFID and RTLS platform vendors use SRS as a white-label national field arm, installing under their brand at their customers' sites — a channel engagement covered on the RTLS deployment partner page. There is no channel conflict either way, because SRS sells no competing software.
