The distances on a spread-out property are exactly the range where multimode starts to constrain what optics you can use later, and the cable itself is the part you cannot casually replace. Multimode remains fine inside a single building for short vertical runs where the electronics are cheaper and the cable is accessible.

A design that adds an unnecessary joint per building compounds into a real loss budget problem and a longer certification pass. On coastal properties the hardware at each end gets corrosion-rated material like everything else exposed here.

With the restoration kit left on the property during the original install and the OTDR trace that shows what healthy looked like. Together those turn a break into a scheduled repair. Without them the property waits on parts crossing two shipping legs, which is why the kit contents are specified at design time and listed in the closeout rather than left to chance.

Enough to serve every building that route could ever reach, not just the two it connects today. On a property that grows in phases, the trench or conduit run is the expensive part and the glass inside it is comparatively cheap. We size against the site plan rather than the current design and record the assumption, so the next phase becomes a patching job.

Field splicing for anything outdoors, because the measured route between buildings rarely matches the drawing closely enough to trust a fixed-length assembly. An assembly cut to a drawing either lands short of the far enclosure or arrives long, leaving a service coil the enclosure was never sized to hold. Inside a building, where a riser length can be measured precisely, pre-terminated assemblies are a sensible way to cut field labor.
