Electrical data logging is the temporary installation of a three-phase power quality analyzer on a facility electrical system to record voltage, current, real and apparent power, energy, power factor, frequency, harmonic distortion, sags, swells, and peak demand over a defined window — typically 24 hours, 48 hours, or seven days. The deliverable is a time-stamped data set and a report package: a documented record of how the system behaved, which is what makes a before-and-after comparison defensible.

Thirteen Parameters, One Recording

We specify the instrument by what it must record, not by the logo on the front of it. Any analyzer used on an SRS scope has to capture all of the following and export both a PDF report and the raw data.

Calibration is part of the specification. An instrument reading is only as good as its last calibration. Analyzers used on SRS scopes carry a current calibration certificate from an accredited laboratory, dated within the manufacturer recommended interval. It is the same principle behind the Fluke DSX certification results we deliver on cabling certification — a test result without a calibrated instrument behind it is an opinion.

Six Reasons a Facility Orders a Log

Before-and-after verification

A vendor installs equipment that is supposed to reduce consumption or clean up power quality. A log before and a matching log after, on the same methodology, is what turns that claim into a documented result.

Load studies and circuit verification

Before adding POS lanes, chargers, or a server room, measure what the panel is actually carrying across a full duty cycle. Nameplate ratings and a clamp meter reading at 10am are not a load study.

Intermittent faults nobody can catch

Equipment that resets at shift change, a UPS that transfers for no logged reason, a breaker that trips monthly. These are events in time, and only a time-stamped recording finds them.

Harmonic and power factor investigation

VFDs, LED drivers, and switching supplies distort the waveform. Where a utility bills a power-factor penalty or equipment runs hot for no obvious reason, harmonics are usually in the picture.

Commissioning and startup verification

New service, new generator, new UPS. A recording across the first full operating cycle documents that the installed system behaves the way the design said it would.

Utility service verification

When the bill and the operation stop agreeing, an independent measurement at the service entrance settles whether the problem is the tariff, the meter, or the load.

What We Measure, and What We Do Not Conclude

SRS delivers the measurement and the report package. We install the instrument correctly, capture accurate data over the agreed window, and hand back the trends, the event log, and the raw export. That is the scope, and we hold ourselves to it.

What we do not do is grade someone else homework. Where a log is run around a vendor product, the engineering interpretation belongs to that vendor or to your own engineers — the people who designed the thing being evaluated. Where a log is run to troubleshoot, the recommendations belong to the licensed electrical engineer or contractor who will stamp and perform the corrective work.

This is deliberate. A measurement is only worth something if the party taking it has no stake in the answer. We report what the data says, including when it says nothing changed.
